Medi-notes’ patient information
leaflets provide expertly written, concise medical
information in clear every day language and cover
the most common treatments and investigations, including
surgery. They are presented in an inviting, easy-to-read
format on coloured, folded paper for easy recognition
and storage or they can be viewed online. |
They are written by medically
experienced writers, using evidence-based practice
and checked for their medical content by consultants
who are experts in their field. A patient panel
for readability and clarity has assessed the information. |
Most patients only remember about
25% of any consultation; these leaflets are first
and foremost an aide-memoir for the patient and
act as a back-up to the clinician’s verbal
information. It is intended that they be handed
personally to the patient by the clinician at the
time of initial consultation. |
The leaflets provide patients,
at the earliest possible moment, with the information
they need and can refer back to about a particular
treatment, the risks and benefits, and the choices
available to them. They provide all-round information
to enable patients to give more considered and informed
consent for, or refusal to, a proposed procedure. |
Well presented, easily accessible
information helps to involve patients in their treatment
which in turn improves the medical outcome. |
All leaflets are written according
to the Department of Health ‘Toolkit on producing
information’. They are written in a frutiger
font size 12/14 using the RNIB readability guidelines. |
